Brú na Bóinne
Just 9 kilometres from Slane Castle lies the World Heritage Site of Brú na Boinne. The archaeological landscape is dominated by the three well-known large passage tombs, Knowth, Newgrange and Dowth, built some 5,000 years ago in the Neolithic or Late Stone Age. The Brú na Bóinne tombs, in particular Knowth, contain the largest assemblage of megalithic art in Western Europe.
The new state of the art, immersive visitor experience focuses on the monuments of the World Heritage Site during the Neolithic period. The exhibits explore the seasonal nature of Stone Age society, the significance of the solar cycle, ceremonies and the monument building process.
Slane Food Circle Artisan Food Tours
The Slane Food Circle offers the opportunity to meet like-minded artisan producers on their farms and in their workplaces to understand what living on and from the land means to them and their families.
You will see how both ancient traditions and a deep connection with the Boyne Valley landscape influences the food they produce and learn the centuries old, often single-ingredient methods that they honour. Tours include a food or drink tasting at each stop.
