The spirit of Christmas is in the air at Slane Castle Estate. Join in for the ceremonial Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, 4th December and the festive Christmas craft fair in the Castle all weekend. Entry is free of charge for this lovely seasonal event and everyone is welcome. Put the weekend of 4th and 5th December in your diary now.

The gates open at 10am and the Christmas Craft Fair begins at 11am with a wonderful selection of artisan craft stalls in the main hall adorned with festive decoration. Enjoy a hot chocolate or a mulled cider from the bar as you explore the grounds. The food truck will be open with hearty seasonal fare to keep hunger at bay. The Walking Trail is free of charge for the weekend, so it’s an ideal place for youngsters to burn off some energy.

As twilight falls on the 4th, Alex Conyngham, the Earl of Mount Charles will perform the official Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the courtyard of his ancestral home. There’s no lovelier sight than the twinkling lights of trees and courtyard with the stately Castle as a dramatic backdrop.

The icing on the cake is glorious live music from Meath Beo in the Courtyard and at the Christmas market in the main hall. Slane Distillery bar, gift shop and tours will be open from 12-6pm.

Slane Village is readying itself for the festive season too so call down to Slane Art Quarter to visit Shine Gift Shop, Pat’s Art Studio and Curios Antique Shop. You might find a treasured souvenir to take home.
