The Walking Trail

Stroll past mature woodlands where birds add their song to the sound that the estate is most famous for, the Slane Festival.

International rock legends have entertained millions of fans against the backdrop of Slane Castle since 1981. Follow in their footsteps on the Concert Field Walk which starts at the entrance to the Castle courtyard.

Please check in for our Walking Trail at the Food Truck who will also provide a QR code for the map and entry to the walk.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

  • Is it suitable for buggies?

    It is accessible for buggies, please note some parts are gravel laid with two inclines/ hills to navigate. It may be more difficult to navigate and harder to push a buggy in parts. Most families visiting have no problems.

  • Is it wheelchair accessible?

    Most of the trail is accessible for wheelchair users, but it has not been surveyed or accredited and some parts are gravel laid with two steep inclines/ hills to navigate. These sections may be more difficult to cross.

  • What is the length of the trail?

    The total length of the walking trail is 1.6kms. You can extend the walk by adding Lady’s Walk to your journey.

  • Is there a trail map available?

    A trail map of the walking trail is available through a QR Code located at the Food Truck and at the link above.
 We also have a map and general interpretation points throughout the walking trail.

  • Can I bring a picnic?

    We have lots of open space for picnic areas along the walking trail.

  • Are there toilets along the walking trail?

    Currently we have no toilets along the walking trail. Toilets are located at the Food Truck so please ensure to avail of these before setting off on your walk.

  • Is there seating along the walking trail?

    There is limited seating on the trail but two mowed circles in the grass where you are welcome to sit and take in the views.

Walking Trail Modifications

Please note this trail is in its initial stages and your support will help us to build and enhance our Walking Trail to the next stages of the design. With that, the walking path may be modified to accommodate maintenance, extensions or any other unforeseen circumstances.

Following the excellent feedback on our walking trail which we opened in 2021, we are working on some additional walking trail options to make your experience even more fulfilling.
