As 2016 drew to a close I struggled to remain optimistic so let me start with some personal good stuff. I am alive and that was not a given at the beginning of the year. If the truth be known at times I thought I was running out of road.
On the day of Trump’s inauguration I was in West Palm Beach in Florida and after watching his abrasive inaugural address on CNN, the channel which tells the truth and he loves to hate, I decided to go for a walk to clear my head.
This week I am back in West Palm Beach, Florida, and two things seem to be on everybody’s mind - the Super Bowl and the Donald. I won’t be escaping either.
Last Saturday I went to the start of the anti-Trump march in West Palm Beach, Florida, in front of the aptly named Trump Plaza.
So Enda goes to Washington with his bowl of shamrock and then he will kindly tell us when he will depart, but it will likely be after Easter so he can get past his birthday, and become the longest serving Fine Gael Taoiseach
A lame duck Taoiseach, leading a dead duck government, floating in a pond of water charges, going nowhere. Fair comment ? Well let’s examine the evidence.
To be honest , I feel somewhat overwhelmed this week. Part of it is personal. The wind-up to Guns n’Roses has begun. We had the first tasting of our new Slane Whiskey in Boyle’s Pub in Slane on Wednesday.
Sometimes you get an image in your mind and it is hard to shake it off. Then it is more difficult when it is magnified by a phrase. Let me try it on you.
Well I celebrated Easter in West Palm Beach. I didn’t bump into the Donald but I had Easter lunch next door to Mar-a-Lago and as I was leaving the island saw the follicly challenged one depart for Washington in Air Force One.
