To be frank, this week I feel nauseous. Why ? Because not only do I feel our government has lost moral compass, but they quite clearly do not understand what is happening.
Ironic isn’t it that last week the speculators holding unsecured unguaranteed Anglo-Irish bonds were paid in full and this week approximately the same amount of money was cut from the capital expenditure programme. Remember the general election. That was when the Labour Party argued with great force that it was all about jobs.
When you are living in the middle of great historical convulsions it is sometimes hard to keep a perspective. Now is such a time and we need more than ever to be clear about what is happening. One passage in particular struck me.
Doesn’t the last general election seem so long ago ? One could be forgiven for thinking it was meaningless, but that, of course, is not the case. The voice of the people was heard.
