I keep wanting to get away from the Presidential election because there is so much else going on with the ongoing crisis in the eurozone and the lead in to yet another murderous budget. Still, there it is in your face, on the television, and everywhere with those damn election posters.
After the Presidential debate on RTE’s Prime Time I feel deprived. I can’t vote for Miriam O’Callaghan. She was head and shoulders above the lot of them, and without question she would sail to the top of one of the sillier poll questions conducted during the campaign. ‘Who would you most like to have to dinner ?’
As the Presidential campaign passes through its final weekend, racing analogies leap to mind, but not, I’m afraid, the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse or the Derby at the Curragh, but some insignificant point-to-point at some obscure location where the attention span is limited.
